About Us
1st Clayton Park 1st Clayton Park presently consists of 4 levels of the Scouting Movement. Beaver Scouts (ages 5-7) The Beaver program is designed for 5-7 year olds.  A place to have fun, play games, create crafts and go to new places around the city from firestation & police deptartment tours, to day trips at camp. The Beaver Program helps children grow socially through teamwork, games and interact with others their age. Beavers meet on Monday nights 6:15-7:15 p.m. at Rockingham United Church in a group called a colony. There is one leader for every five Beavers. Cubs Scouts (ages 8-10) The Cub Program builds new skills and opportunities to try out new adventures. A large part of the Cub program deals with the outdoors.  The cub program introduces a badge system to reward the members when they complete their new skills.  The cubs learn many outdoor skill that will serve them during their lifetime from camping, survival, first aid and much more. Cubs meet on Monday nights in a group called a Pack.  The Pack’s Adult leader is called “Akela”. Scouts (ages 11-14) The Scout Program builds further on the skills learnt in Cubs and introduces many new adventures appropriate to the age group. A large part of the Scouting program deals with the outdoors.  Scouts camp often at our camp at Millers Lake or other camps hosted by our Area or other Scouting Groups during all seasons of the year.  Hiking, Canoeing, Kayaking, Outdoor Cooking, Survival and First Aid Training, Map, Compass skills are a large part of the program.   Scouts learn to work in smaller groups “Patrols” consisting of up to 6 members.  These groups learn to work together for a common goal, be it cooking or creating an overnight shelter to working in competition with other patrols.  Scouts meet on Monday nights 7-9 p.m. at Rockingham United Church, Halifax in a group called a Troop.  The Adult leader is addressed at “Scouter”. Venturer Scouts (ages 14-17) Venturers are the leaders of our future as such each member works as part of the “Company” to create the Venturer program.  The Venturer Company consists of the same set of executives as any company in the public world.  A President, Vice President, Secretary/Scribe, Treasurer, Quartermaster (in charge of gear/supplies).  The Venturer program is designed to challenge the youth, with the assistance of the advisor the youth take on much of the responsibility of creating, planning and executing the outing/event as voted on by the Venturers.  Each member of the Company brings forth ideas and all members have the opportunity to vote on the idea, with assistance of the advisor the member makes the idea/event possible. Outdoors and Volunteering are major components of the Venturer program The Adult leader is addressed as “Advisor”.
